Institute of Earth Sciences St.Petersburg State University involved in «Semester at Sea» programme of American University

On the 1st September, 2014, a meeting with American students-geographers, who arrived in St.Petersburg for two days by a training vessel, took place at Institute of Earth Sciences «Phoenix» Distance Learning Center.

«Semester at Sea» programme is the University of Virginia (USA) training programme. It is prescheduled for September-December period annually and includes a long marine trip with visits to the different ports of Great Britain, Russia (St.Petersburg), Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Morocco, Ghana, Brazil, Barbados, Cuba.

The Meeting  was organized by the Department of Regional Policy and the Political Geography of St. Petersburg State University. The meeting was opened by the Director of the Institute Professor Sergey.V.Aplonov with a story about SPbSU and the Institute of Earth Sciences.

Further Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Konstantin E.Axenov  delivered a lecture in English: «St.Petersburg-Leningrad-St.Petersburg Round Trip: Back from the USSR?» and answered numerous questions of students and their leader Robin Doughty.

Both parties agreed to continue their cooperation and future meetings in St.Petersburg.
